About the Global Land Forum 2018

Every two-three years, ILC organizes the Global Land Forum (GLF). This unique event brings together ILC members and other stakeholders from grassroots organizations, activists, local and international NGOs, and researchers, to multilateral organizations and government agencies from around the world to advance understanding of the complex and dynamic political, economic, environmental and social linkages between land governance, food security, poverty and democracy. By convening all members and key partners of the network, the Forum creates opportunities for participants to learn from, and contribute to, land governance successes and challenges. As one of the largest land forums in the world, GLF 2018 is expected to be opened by President Joko Widodo, with ministers from ILC member countries; Asia, Central Europe, Africa and Latin America, civil society organizations, UN agencies, government agencies, academics and community organizations in attendance. Under the overarching theme of United for Land Rights, Peace & Justice, the forum will discuss agrarian reform as one of the many land development issues. The overarching themes are Women’s Land Rights, Food Sovereignty, Agrarian Reform and Land Grabbing. The ILC Award will also be given at the GLF 2018. The Award recognizes ILC members leading the fight for a more just and equitable world.
